Those born in Fiji acquire citizenship unless the parents have diplomatic immunity or neither parent is a Fiji citizen.
Those born outside the Fiji Islands to at least one Fiji parent may register for citizenship.
Those over age 18 may apply for naturalization if they have been lawfully present in Fiji for at least 5 of the 10 years preceding the application.
Renunciation of the original citizenship is not required pursuant to Section 11(2) of the Citizenship of Fiji Decree 2009.
